Genital HPV Types

HPV 6,11 (30,42,43,44)

  • These make over 90% of genital warts
  • Rarely associated with cancer
  • These are the vast majority of genital warts

HPV 16,18 ( 31,33,35,39,51,52,61)

  • High risk of association with cervical cancer and other lower genital tract cancers
  • Clues from the appearance of the warts that may hint or suggest that they are the higher risk subtypes
    • pigmented warts (darker pigment than the normal skin colour)
    • warts that are very red
